Frequently Asked Questions
QUAD ADVENTURES
Do I need to have previous experience?
No, full training will be given prior to your Quad Adventure commencing and only when your instructor is satisfied will he commence with the trek. If you are ever unsure, just stop and ask!
Is there an age limIt for quad biking?
The minimum age is 10 years, in line with the manufacturer's recommendations. There is no upper age limit, however quad biking is a physically active off-road sport, so riders should be reasonably fit and able to control the vehicle safely throughout the experience.
Can I bring my own quad bike?
We are not currently able to facilitate riders bringing their own Quad Bikes to use on the trails or practice track.
Do I need to book?
Yes. You can easily use our booking system to secure your Quad Adventure. A deposit is required to reserve spaces on our Quad Adventures.
How long does it last?
We offer a 60-75 minute Quad Adventure. All of our Quad Adventures include a 15 minute introduction with health and safety briefing before you start and time to get kitted out in your overalls, helmet and gloves. Approximately 15 minutes of your Quad Adventure will be ‘training’ so you know how to use the Quad Bike safely. Allow a minimum of 1 hour 30 minutes for your visit.
Is Quad Biking Safe?
Quad biking is safe as long as you follow the full instructions and briefing given by our fully trained staff. Our instructors are very experienced and their priority is to provide a safe environment for all of our riders. Safety equipment including helmets are provided. Riders not listening to instruction or riding in a dangerous manner will not be tolerated and asked to stop their adventure to ensure the safety of everybody present.
What should I wear?
We provide helmets, gloves and overalls. We recommend wearing clothes you don't mind getting muddy underneath your overalls, together with sturdy, closed-toe footwear. If you choose not to wear our overalls, long sleeves and long trousers must be worn. Crocs and sandal type shoes are not permitted.
How many people are in each group?
We can accommodate 2–18 riders per Quad Adventure, depending on the ages of the group. Standard Adventures are shared with other riders and may include both adults and juniors. Exclusive Adventures are reserved just for your group, allowing us to tailor the experience to your ability and interests.
Junior groups are limited to six riders, although additional adult riders (aged 16+) can join the adventure. Larger groups will be accompanied by multiple instructors to ensure everyone is well supervised.
We offer 1:1 Exclusive Adventures on weekdays for riders aged 18yrs+.
can my child go by him/herself?
We do not accept single rider bookings for under 18s. Children aged 10–11 years must ride with an accompanying adult. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult throughout their visit. If the adult is not taking part in the activity, they must still stay on site.
Is there a weight restriction?
Our adult Quad bikes do have a maximum weight restriction of up to approx. 24 stone,
however please take into account that quad biking is a physical sport and
you must deem yourself to be physically fit enough to take part. Under 16’s who may be too tall or heavy for our 90cc quads may, in exceptional circumstances, be allowed to ride our 250cc quads (with parental/guardian consent) to ensure a safer Quad Adventure.
MX tuition
Who provides the tuition?
All of our tuition is delivered by friendly, knowledgeable motocross instructors with extensive riding and teaching experience. We carefully select instructors who not only have excellent motocross skills, but also the ability to coach riders of all ages and abilities in a clear, patient and encouraging way.
Our tuition team is led by Will Bayman, co-owner of Tile Farm Off Road. Will has raced motocross at expert level and has many years of experience coaching both children and adults, helping to develop the high standard of tuition we provide. Every lesson is tailored to the individual rider, whether they're taking to a bike for the first time or looking to refine their technique.
Do you only provide tuition for beginners?
Here at Tile Farm Off Road, our aim is to support riders from complete beginners to those who want to better themselves in their racing. No prior experience on a bike is necessary before having an MX tuition session however we do ask that you can ride a bicycle unaided. We ask that you give us a brief overview of your ability at the time of booking. Each lesson is tailored to the rider so we can work on the various elements of riding to suit you and your goals.
Do you provide the safety gear?
When booking bike hire, use of safety gear is included in the price including helmet, MX boots, gloves, goggles and body armour. We also have overalls available to protect your clothing or if your clothing does not cover your arms/legs fully. We ask for your sizes in advance so we can make sure we have the correct kit available and ready for you.
My child has additional needs, can they still attend tuition?
Our staff have a wealth of experience providing tuition to young people who have behavioural or additional needs. Our instructors understanding of additional needs stem from both personal and professional experiences. Our aim is to be as inclusive as possible to encourage people to get into the sport so please get in touch with us if you, or your child, have any additional needs or disability you feel we need to be aware of before the tuition goes ahead. Although we try to be as inclusive as possible, there are some disabilities which are not covered by our insurance due to the significant increase in the risk of harm to the rider. You are welcome to get in touch with us to discuss your situation if you are unsure.
How many people will be in my tuition session?
Our tuition is tailor made to suit the person who has booked it. Lessons booked for 1 rider mean that it is just you and the instructor 1:1 for the duration of your session. We do not add extra people to your tuition unless it is a specific group event where riders book on individually.
Where does the tuition take place?
Our tuition takes place on our purpose built practice track based here at Tile Farm Off Road. We have an option of beginner loops to start up to our main practice track for the more confident rider. The use of the track for the duration of the tuition is included in the tuition cost. During the winter months, we often have access to a flat stubble field track which we use when the main practice track is too wet.
Can my child hire a bike for MX Tuition?
Yes. We have a range of tuition bikes suitable for different rider sizes and abilities, including the Husqvarna EE5, Yamaha TTR125, Kawasaki KLX140R and Yamaha WR250F. We'll recommend the most suitable bike based on the rider's height, build and experience.
Is there a minimum age for your MX Tuition?
We don't have a strict minimum age for MX tuition, however we generally don't recommend lessons for children under 4 years old due to the length and intensity of the session. Riders should be able to understand and follow basic instructions from our instructors.
For bike hire, suitability is based primarily on the rider's height and inside leg measurement so we can ensure they can safely control the bike. If you're unsure whether you or your child is suitable, please get in touch and we'll be happy to advise.
What if it is raining?
Our MX tuition takes place in all weathers as it is an outdoor sport however if the weather means the track conditions are too poor for your tuition to go ahead, we will get in touch with you to rearrange your session or provide a full refund. The decision is often made the morning of your tuition if the weather has been mixed.
Can I hire a bike without taking part in tuition?
No, we do not hire out bikes for general use or practice. It is only as part of an MX tuition session.
Can I pay to use the track by myself after my lesson or can I ride the track whilst my child has a lesson?
No, unfortunately we are unable to offer extra time on the practice track before or after lessons. We are also unable to allow parents, children, or friends to have use of the track, or beginners loop, whilst the lesson is in progress. Please refer to our Wednesday practice days for information on general use of the track.
Is it safe?
Motorsport can be dangerous. We take all reasonable precautions and our team meet all the requirements of health and safety. Motocross in particular has a high likelihood of injury so please take care and ensure you are wearing the correct safety wear such as: helmet, goggles, gloves, motocross boots, body armour and appropriate motocross attire.
PRACTICE TRACK
what do you mean by noise restriction?
Usually well maintained standard pipes are fine on our track but when people use after market exhausts they are often too loud and lead us to get complaints from neighbouring areas. If you are unsure then please just give us a call or ask us on arrival.
Do you ever open the track on a weekend?
No. We open it for practice sessions on Wednesdays and offer private hire on weekdays only. This is because we want to keep the noise levels to a minimum. We also prioritise our Quad Adventures and MX Tuition (kids/electric/bike hire only) on weekends.
is it ok to wear wellies instead of motocross boots?
No. All riders are required to wear: Helmet, goggles, gloves, long sleeve top, long trousers and motocross boots. This is to promote safety and you will not be allowed to ride your off-road bike at our site without these items. We also strongly recommend wearing body armour as an additional protection.
do you allow electric bikes?
This is completely dependent on the model of your electric “motocross” bike. It needs to be equivalent power and build as a motorised motocross bike for us to consider it. E-bikes with rotary pedals are not permitted. All riders must wear the same safety wear as if they were on a petrol powered off road bike.
Can I ride my bike at the same time as my 10 year old child?
No. We run separate sessions on our main track for adults and juniors, as well as separate sessions for larger kids bikes and smaller kids bikes. The groups are also dependent on the size of your engine. Any 125cc 2-stroke (or 4-stroke equivalent) or person aged 16 years+ will be in the adults sessions. If you have a younger rider on a larger engine bike you may be turned away, please call us to discuss further if needed.
I’m a beginner, is your track suitable?
We pride ourselves on being a beginner friendly environment where both beginners and more advanced riders can enjoy our track together. If you are an adult and you are a beginner, please get in touch with us about our MX tuition as we will be able to build up your confidence so you feel happy to join in with Wednesday practice sessions. For beginner kids, we do have a kiddies track available, but again would recommend MX tuition to start you off. Call us on 01244 300321 to discuss further.
Are you insured?
Yes. All of our activities are fully insured. We ask all riders to read the safety information displayed around the site and complete the required indemnity forms before riding. If you're ever unsure about anything, please ask a member of our team—we're always happy to help.
